Early Signs of Encantment is Andy Marquez's follow-up to his highly acclaimed Last Signs of the Frontier. This visual journey through the back roads and cities of New Mexico, takes you well into the 20th century through 101 of the state's oldest road signs.
Disappearing at an alarming rate, these aging signs remind us of times long past. Part of the book is dedicated to the charm of Historic Old Route 66.
While photographing this collection, Mr. Marquez marked the GPS waypoint of each sign. While Frontier took 3½ years to complete, Enchantment was completed in just over a year. Half of the signs were shot in five days, covering 3,400 miles in the last month of production. No computer manipulation whatsoever was used in the presentatrion of these photographs, all images were shot with film. You'll find this book a great conversation piece, today and many years to come.
